By: Hosayn Abdul Ali

Shawal 15 is the martyrdom anniversary of holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (saw)’s sixth infallible successor Hazrat Imam Ja’far bin Muhammad As-Sadiq (as).

Abu-Abdollah, Sadiq, Fazil, Tahir and Sabir are some of his titles. Imam (as) was martyred in 148 AH at the age of 65 and his Imamate period was 34 years. His grave is in the demolished Baqi Cemetery in the holy city of Medinah by the grave of his father Hazrat Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (as).

Imam (as) taught more than 4000 students among them appeared the great scientific characters such as Hesham Ibn-e Hekam, Jabir Ibn-e Hayyan who is the founder of scientific chemistry, Muhammad Ibn-e Moslem and Abu- Hanifah etc.

Founder of Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatullah Khomeini (late) in one of his statements about Imam As-Sadiq (as) said: “The best character with which one can get insight in to Imam Sadiq (as)’s personality is Imam’s jurisprudence (Fiqh). The jurisprudence developed by him can meet the needs of all humankind. We cannot offer a suitable definition for it. We are honored to say that our religion is Ja’fari. Our jurisprudence, which is an endless sea, is the result of Imam As-Sadiq (as)’s endeavor… we are proud to be the followers of the innocent Imams.”

"Knowledge is better than wealth because it protects you while you have to guard wealth. it decreases if you keep on spending it but the more you make use of knowledge ,the more it increases . what you get through wealth disappears as soon as wealth disappears but what you achieve through knowledge will remain even after you."
