Qassim (AS) - reflection of Rehana-tor-Rasul Al-Hassan (AS)

By: Haura Jafry

Hassan ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) had said one day: "Brother Hussain, a day will come when Islam will need to be saved by sacrifice. Hussain, I will not be alive on that day, however my son, Qasim will be there. It is my wish that Qasim should represent me on that day."

Qasim ibn Al-Hasan Al-Mojtaba (AS) was born on Sha’aban 7 in 47 A.H., three years before his father Al-Imam Al-Hasan bin Ali Al-Mortada (AS)’s martyrdom.

So he was taken into care by Imam Hussain (AS). Imam Hussain (AS) and Abbas (AS) trained Qasim (AS) from this tender age and transformed him into a brave and courageous fighter during a short period.

When Imam Hussain (AS) prepared to leave Madina in the month of Rajab 60 A.H. Qasim’s mother Umme-Farwa (AS) asked Imam Hussain (AS) to take her and Qasim (AS) with him. Imam agreed, and there in the burning desert of Karbala he along with Imam (AS)’s other faithful companions sacrificed his life.

What has become of Hussain ...
where have the fruits of his youth gone?

Can you hear the sound,
of the horses galloping,
as they crush Qassim's bones?
Can you see the joy on Yazid's troops,
as little Qassim's limbs,
lay scattered on the field?

What has become of Hussain ...
where have the fruits of his youth gone?

Where is Hussain,
at this hour of need ...
Is he by the tent side,
or on the field,
collecting his Qassim's body parts,
in his prayer cloak.

What has become of Hussain ...
where have the fruits of his youth gone?

Hussain, hiding his worried face,
from the rejoicing crowd.
Alas, how can a gardener witness,
the plucking of his flowers,
who are the fruits of his youth.

What has become of Hussain ...
where have the fruits of his youth gone?

Qassim - his Hassan's reflection,
shattered into fragments,
wrapped in a bundle,
filling the air,
with the scent of musk.

What has become of Hussain ...
where have the fruits of his youth gone?
