“In a pool of blood, which falls from his eyes”

By: Sharmeen Zaidi
Poetess: Fizza

The rustling leaves
Whisper Bismillah
As the wind in its hurry
To pay salaams rushes past
Into the prison
Where the daughters of Fatima
Are kept.

Sajjad lies bowed on the floor
In a pool of blood,
Which falls from his eyes,
Blinding him from the sight
Of the uncovered princess.

Sakina lies awake
Tormented by the image of her now headless father
On a bed of arrows,
Clothes stained red
Begging for help.

Rubaab rocks back and forth
Her dry lips singing lullabies
To the oppressed air
As she dreams of her baby.

Zainab, hides herself
In the folds of her silky hair,
Craving protection
From a shame which is
Seeping her life blood
drop by drop.

Sajjad dies as she calls out for Abbas,
Whose hands rise on the plains of Kerbala
Desperately trying to find
The fallen Alim of Ali
To rescue her from her cursed fate.

As the pain of Leila, Rubaab, Sakina, Farwa, Fiza, Fatima, Muhammad
Saturates the prison
Sajjad's eyes continue to flow
For twenty years after Ashura
They flowed

Whenever Zainab's name is mentioned
They flow

Wherever a devotee of Hussayn is in pain
They will flow

Until the son of Muhammad
Not withstanding the tide
Reveals himself
And says

"Knowledge is better than wealth because it protects you while you have to guard wealth. it decreases if you keep on spending it but the more you make use of knowledge ,the more it increases . what you get through wealth disappears as soon as wealth disappears but what you achieve through knowledge will remain even after you."MORE ..
