Karbala death toll mounts to 19; Baghdad blast claims 3 By: Ismail Zabeeh HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: As mourners inhumed victims of Saturday’s guerrilla assault in the holy city of Karbala that claimed 19 lives and wounded about 200, a roadside bomb explosion in Baghdad on Sunday killed an American soldier leaving two Iraqi children martyred.
According to Sgt. Patrick Compton of the US Army's 1st Armored Division the blast in the capital also wounded five US soldiers, their Iraqi interpreter and eight members of the Iraqi civil defense corps. A health department official in the holy city of Karbala that houses the holy shrines of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) and his brother Hazrat Abbas (p) said five more Iraqis including a woman died on Sunday after being injured in Saturday's bomb attacks taking the death toll from a series of attacks in the holy city to 19.
