First victim of US forces-Sadr militia clashes - Haideri Shrine By: Ismail Zabeeh HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: The golden dome of the holy shrine of Commander of Faithful Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be on him) became first victim of violent clashes between US forces and Moqtada As-Sadr’s Mehdi Militia in the holy city of Najaf on Thursday. This was told by reliable sources. Months ago, the holy mausoleum was damaged several times during clashes between American forces and Mehdi militia. The Najaf Marjaiyah had held both sides responsible for the sacrilege. According to reports Wednesday, Najaf’s Governor Adnan Az-Zorfi while talking to Lebanese newspaper ‘Al-Hayat’ accused Iran of “standing behind all that is happening in the holy city of Najaf” through her alliance with officials in Al-Mehdi militia. Az-Zorfi also revealed that members of former Baathi regime along with Iran are part of Mehdi militia. He exposed names of officials of Saddam regime’s agencies currently working in the militia. Meanwhile, Iraqi Defense Minister Hazem Ash-Shaalan, in remarks published in Kuwaiti newspaper “Al-Anbaa” on Wednesday, warned Iran against using Iraqi soil for taking revenge from the United States. He accused Iran of fanning violence in the holy land of Iraq. Al-Shaalan also accused Tehran of “attempting to sabotage the demographic structure of Iraq and to denaturalize its national identity.” END |
