Funeral for Martyrs of Karbala blast held By: Ismail Zabeeh
HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Funeral of those martyred as a result of a bomb blast in Holy Karbala on Wednesday was held Thursday noon attended by thousands of mourners. According to the latest toll from hospital officials ten people were martyred and 40 wounded when the bomb exploded at a gate to the holy mausoleum of Imam Hussein (p), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (p).
Hospital director Hassan Nasrallah said Thursday that Sheikh Abdel Mehdi Karbalayi, the local representative of Ayatullah Ali Sistani, was out of danger after being injured in the blast. Religious scholars, representatives of Grand Marajay, tribal chiefs, political figures, leadership of religious and national parties besides thousands of mourners attended the funeral.
The funeral procession began from Al-Bobiyat region, and passing through the Martyrs Street – the place where the incident occurred – reached at the holy shrine of Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p). At the holy shrine, funeral prayer was offered, rituals of ziyarah performed and pledge with Al-Imam Al-Hussein (p) and his brother Al-Abbas (p) renewed. Later the dead bodies were sent to Holy Najaf for burial in Wadi-us-Salam (Valley of Peace).
