Toll in Iraq twin bombings soars to 101 By: Hamoud Kufi BAGHDAD, Iraq: The US-led coalition said Tuesday the death toll in the weekend double suicide bombings in the Kurdish city of Irbil climbed to 101. The dead were among hundreds attending separate ceremonies Sunday at offices of the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan marking Eid-ol-Adha when suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped to their bodies. The attacks were the bloodiest since a car bomb exploded Aug. 29 outside the holy shrine of Imam Ali (p) in the holy city of Najaf, which martyred nearly 122 including Ayatullah Baqer Al-Hakim. Meanwhile, a video camera captured images of a man shaking hands with a Kurdish official seconds before blowing himself up in one of the two suicide bombings during holiday celebrations. END |
