Over 2,000 Iraqi refugees return from Iran By: Hamoud Kufi BASRA, Iraq: In this southern Iraqi city, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNCHR, said more than 250 Iraqis have returned home from Iran refugee camps on Tuesday. Talking to newsmen, local spokesman for UNHCR Ali Deravy said the recent batch of Iraqis brought to 2,300 the total number of Iraqi refugees who have come back from Iran since the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime in April 2003. Iran hosts the largest concentration of Iraqi refugees, over 200,000, who fled after the 1991 Gulf War. END |
