Iraq Shiite, Sunni foiling rift-creating acts, anti-cont rallies held By: Ismail Zabeeh
HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: Religious sites have been a particular target of terrorist in Iraq aimed at fanning sectarianism and causing rift among Muslims. On Saturday before dawn, a powerful explosion rocked the Ar-Rasol Al-Akram Mosque, west of Baghdad. No casualties were reported. Earlier this week, some other mosques including Al-Kobaysi mosque were also targeted as well as prayer leaders.
But both Shiite and Sunni brethren urged by their leaders for maintaining unity have rejected presence of religious war between them displaying solidarity among them on every occasion. Meanwhile, hundreds of students shouting slogans staged protests in the holy city of Najaf and Mosul on Saturday against the recently signed new Iraqi interim constitution. END |
