Iraqis express solidarity with Marjaiyah By: Ismail Zabeeh HOLY CITIES OF NAJAF AND KARBALA, Iraq: Thousands of protestors demonstrated in Nasseriyah and holy cities of Najaf and Karbala on Friday declaring solidarity with Marjaiyah in Najaf and demanding armed groups to leave the holy cities immediately. Representatives of Ayatullah Sayyed Ali As-Sistani were leading the massive demonstrations. In the holy city of Karbala, a protest rally was taken out after Friday prayers against desecration of holy cities, display of arms there and presence of US forces and Moqtada As-Sadr’s Mehdi militia. The protestors chanting slogans “No no to bloodshed, Yes yes to peace” gathered between the Harmayn Sharifayn, or the two holy shrines of Al-Imam Al-Hussein and Hazrat Al-Abbas (peace be on them). They were holding placards that read: “Yes yes to peace” and “Karbala is peace dove, so leave arms.” The demonstration was also attended by two elites Ahmed As-Safi and Abdel Mehdi Karbalayi, representative to Ayatullah As-Sistani and supporter of Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq that is headed by Sayyed Abdel Aziz Al-Hakim, son of grand marje of Shiite world Ayatullah Mohsin Al-Hakim (late). In Nasseriyah, thousands demonstrated in front of Jamay Al-Imam Ali Al-Hadi (peace be on him) in the center of the city expressing solidarity with Marjaiyah Diniyah, or religious authorities, in the holy city of Najaf and demanding withdrawal of coalition forces and armed elements from the holy cities. HOLY CITY OF KARBALA/ WASHINGTON: Ayatullah As-Sayyid Muhammad Taqi Al-Modarresi from the holy city of Karbala has said that some of the powers are trying to exploit the situation in the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala for political reasons irrespective of the holiness of the two cities and interests of their residents. |
