Iraq demo demands halt to violation of holy places sanctity By: Ismail Zabeeh
HOLY CITY OF NAJAF/KUFA: Thousands of Iraqis took to streets of Kufa and holy city of Najaf on Thursday demanding a halt to fighting in the city of Imam Ali (peace be on him) that damaged the sanctity of holy sites. The demonstration first in Kufa and then in the holy city of Najaf around the holy shrine of Imam Ali (peace be on him) as well as the Ar-Rasoul street was held on the call of Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI) that is headed by Sayyid Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim. Officials from the SCIRI also attended the demonstration. The protestors holding banners and placards demanded that violation of sanctity of sacred sites and shrines be stopped. END |
