Samara hosts Imam Askary (p) commemorative ceremonies

SAMARA, Iraq: Anniversary of Martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Hassan Al-Askary (p), eleventh infallible successor of Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah (p) and father of the last Imam Al-Mehdi Al-Montazar (p), was observed in Iraq on 8th of Raby-ol Oola, April 17, with due respect.

Throngs of mourning devotees from across the country flocked to the holy shrine of Al-Imam Al-Hassan Al-Askary (p) in the holy city of Samara, north of Baghdad.

Mourning programs began thereat on the eve of the martyrdom anniversary and culminated before the sun of 8th Raby-ol Oola set.

Drums were beaten, elegies were chanted, heads and chests were pounded and tears were streamed to signify deep grief over the martyrdom of Al-Imam Al-Askary (p) who was martyred at the age of 28 years by Abbasid caliph named Mo’tamed.

The black-dressed mourners offered their condolences to Imam Al-Asr (p).

Special arrangements – security, meals, drinks - to ease the mourners were made in the holy city.
