Ayatullah Sistani’s office decline reports of death By: Sheikh Muhammad Khurasani TEHRAN, Iran: An information official in the office of Ayatullah Sayyed Ali As- Sistani in the holy city of Najaf on Monday vehemently dismissed a report by a Turkish newspaper claiming that the ayatollah had died, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency reported. MNA cited Reuters that Akram Az-Zobeidi said in telephonic conversation that Ayatullah Sistani is quite healthy, doing his daily tasks well and every day a number of Iraqi officials meet him. The Turkish newspaper Yeni Shafaq claimed on Monday that the Ayatullah had died in a Baghdad hospital after suffering a heart attack on Sunday. Az-Zobeidi said such reports are being released as part of efforts to demoralize Iraqis and discourage them from voting in the Jan. 30 election. END |
