Shias urge Sunni brethren to vote to foil anti-Iraq conspiracy By: Ismail Zabeeh BAGHDAD, Iraq: Shia leaders in Iraq from the United Iraqi Alliance have called on their Sunni brethren to thwart heinous conspiracy of causing civil war and sectarianism by participating in the January 30 elections. In a press conference on Sunday in Baghdad offices that were damaged by a car bomb just six days before, the alliance said it is not intent on establishing an Islamic theocracy and is not under the sway of Iran. “Our group believes in sharing power with all Iraqi factions,” Abdul Aziz Al-Hakim, chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq who heads the alliance's election slate, told the conference. “We have rejected the idea of a sectarian regime and we believe that Iraq is for all Iraqis.” Alliance figure Ahmed Chalabi told the New York Times he had just returned from Iran where he warned leaders against interfering in the Iraqi polls.
