HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: Thousands of protestors took to the streets of the holy city of Karbala demanding from the Iraqi government to sever ties with Kuwait for insulting Marja’iyah besides an official apology from Kuwait to the whole Shiias world in general and all Iraqis in particular.

The protestors led by clerics from all Hawzaat and religious organizations in the holy city strongly condemned Kuwait for using a picture of Al-Marjay Ad-Dini Al-A`ala Sayyed Ali Al-Husseini As-Sistani as a back wall in a dance and music party aired by a Kuwait TV channel on Thursday evening.

The grand demonstration began from Bab`ol Abbas (AS) region to Bab`ol Haramayn (two sanctuaries – Holy Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) and Al-Abbas (AS)). It was attended by Holy Karbala administration council and Human Rights Society.

Earlier, students of Al-Hawzah Al-Ilmiyah in the holy city of Najaf in a statement severely denounced the heinous act of Kuwait TV channel demanding it to say sorry to Al-Marja’iyah.

In his Friday sermon, Holy Najaf Friday prayer leader Sheikh Saddreddine Al-Qabanchi while condemning Kuwaiti responsible authorities said this is a grave aggression committed against Al-Marja’iyah. He asked that Kuwaiti people and government are friends to Iraqis, then how they let such an attack against Al-Marja’iyah in this way.

The party was organized by Newsweek magazine.
