Scores martyred in Baghdad husseiniyahs blasts

BAGHDAD, Iraq: More than 55 people were martyred and dozens wounded when two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside two husseiniyahs northeast of Baghdad.

The blasts, at 12:30 p.m. local time, occurred in the town of Khanaqin as people were gathering for Friday prayers. No further details were immediately available.

Provincial council leader Ibrahim Hasan al-Bajalan told Agence France-Presse that the suicide bombers walked into the Greater and the Smaller Khanaqin husseiniyahs where they detonated their explosive belts.

According to reports authorities immediately imposed a curfew in the Kurdish town, which lies near the Iranian border in Diyala province, about 110 miles (170 kilometers) from Baghdad.
