New estimates show 100,000 Iraqi families forcefully displaced

By: Ismail Zabeeh

BAGHDAD, Iraq: A new estimate by one of Iraq's high-ranking official has put the number of families who have fled their homes at 100,000, a number far greater than recent projections by other Iraqi officials.

The latest estimate was made by Adel Abdul Mahdi, selected as one of two vice presidents, in the holy city of Najaf, while speaking to reporters after meeting with Grand Ayatullah Ali As-Sistani.

It means that as many as a half-million Iraqis have been displaced by terrorists. The forceful displacement began after the Feb. 22 holy Askariyain Shrine bombing in Samarra.

Abdul-Mahdi further told that 90 percent of the displaced were Mo’minin.
