Iraq leaders call for probe into govt laxity on shrine security report

By: Ismail Zabeeh

BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraqi politicians have called for an investigation into why the government did not respond to a report that security had been breached around the holy shrine of Al-Imamayn Ali Al-Hadi (p) and Al-Hasan Al-Askari (p) in the holy city of Samarra.

Two weeks before the bombing of the holy shrine, the minister for national security reported that attacks were being prepared against holy shrines, but the government ignored it, government sources told Reuters.

A spokesman for the Iraqi Accord Front said the report shows the government was involved in the attack.
