Millions flock in Najaf to celebrate Eid Al-Welayah

HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: Eid Al-Ghadir … Eid Al-Welayah, Al-Eid Al-Akbar marks the day when on 18th day of Dhol-Hejjah in the year 10 A.H. holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) declared Al-Imam Ali (peace be upon him) his first successor by the divine orders in front of more than 100,000 hajj pilgrims at the site of Ghadir in Saudi Arabia.

This auspicious and august occasion is celebrated across the globe by holding festivals, throwing feasts, decorating buildings, extending greetings to each other, and every mean to express happiness to mark the happy event.

Holy city of Najaf keeps an elevated special place in the hearts of believers for there houses the holy mausoleum of Al-Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

Millions of devotees from across the country have been flocked at the beautifully decorated holy shrine to celebrate the blessed occasion which falls this year in Iraq on January 8 Monday and to renew their oath of allegiance to the Amir Al-Mo’minin (Master of believers) Ali Al-Mortadha (peace be upon him).

Special foods and desserts were being cooked in giant pots in streets to facilitate the guests of Al-Imam Ali (peace be upon him).

Security was beefed up for protection of millions of devotees.

Besides holy Najaf, the day is being celebrated throughout the country.
