HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: It has been a practice that millions gather at the holy shrine of Amir’ol Mo’minin Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Al-Mortadha (AS) in the holy city of Najaf every year to commemorate the anniversary of martyrdom of Chief of Prophets Prophet Muhammad bin Abdullah (SW) on Safar 28.

Holding black, green and red standards inscribed with slogans to show devotion for holy Prophet (SW) and his holy progeny (AS), hundreds of thousands of mourners are heading to Holy Najaf, some on foot while some others on vehicles, individually and in caravans.

Security has been tightened for protection of holy Prophet (SW)’s mourners throughout the routes to the holy city as well as in Holy Najaf.

Meals and drinks will be extended to the guests of holy Prophet (SW) from the Table of Al-Imam Ali (AS), his first infallible successor, cousin and son-in-law.
