In a record turnout 15 mln mourners gather in Karbala on Arba段n

HOLY CITY OF KARBALA, Iraq: In a "record" turnout, an
estimated 15 million mourners (Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Sikhs)
observed Arba段n Al-Husseini (40 days after the martyrdom of Al-Imam
Abi Abdillah Al-Hussein (AS)) at the holy shrine of Al-Imam Al-Hussein
(AS) in the holy city of Karbala, Iraq, on Thursday February 28, Safar
20.
The mourners, gathered at the shrine to commemorate the
sad occasion, had came from inside and outside the country, some on
foot, some in caravans while some alone.
Security was beefed up.
White shroud-wearing groups consisting of tens of thousands of
mourners performed Tatbir (slit open head with large sharp sword to
gush out blood to signify grief over the unjust killing of Al-Imam
Al-Hussein (AS)) thus paid homage to the martyrs of Karbala whose
supreme sacrifice some 1400 years ago in the burning desert of Karbala
saved Islam and protected human values.

HOLY KARBALA, Iraq: In holy Karbala, atmosphere is very sad and heartrending; cries of Wa Husseina Wa Husseina are being heard from every nook and corner; eyes are shedding floods of tears; Iraqi newspapers were off on Wednesday; more than 8 million mourners, according to official estimates, from inside and outside Iraq have reached in the holy city up-till-now to commemorate Arba段n while security is tight.
