BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraqi government has tightened security at major
holy shrines in response to the deadly suicide attacks at the holy
shrine of Al-Imam Musa bin Jafar Al-Kadhim (AS) in Kadhimiyah.
More than 75 pilgrims were martyred and 125 injured in the two blasts
by two female suicide bombers happened on Friday April 24 within
minutes of each other at separate gates of the holy shrine shortly
before the start of prayers as worshippers streamed into the
mausoleum.

A hospital official confirmed the toll, adding that 125 were also
wounded in the bombing. Many were Iranian pilgrims on their way to
pray at the shrine.
Friday's attack was the single most deadly this year.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has ordered a military task force to
investigate Friday's attack. He also suspended the area commanders for
failing to provide adequate security around the shrine.

Security has been tightened and checkpoints added around the shrine
in the northern Baghdad neighborhood of Kadhimiyah, a police official
said.
The government also ordered additional security forces deployed to the
southern holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, home to two other important
shrines, another police official said.
All the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were
not authorized to release the information.
Black banners bearing the names of the dead were hung Saturday at the
site of the attacks, while candles and flowers were laid on the
ground.
Maraje and Ayaat have strongly condemned the terrorism urging the
countrymen to remain united in order to thwart the heinous conspiracy.
