Iraq sets to formally establish war crimes tribunal By: Hamoud Kufi BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraqi Governing Council member Mowaffak Ar-Rubaie declared Wednesday that country’s interim leadership voted for formation of a special tribunal to try Saddam Hussein-era atrocities. “The Governing Council approved the creation of an Iraqi penal tribunal to try former members of Saddam Hussein's regime for their crimes against humanity,” Ar-Rubaie said. He told that the crimes include those committed against Iran, Kuwait and against the Arab, Kurd, Turkmen, Assyrian, Shia and Sunni people for the period from July 17, 1968 until May 1 of this year. “The tribunal will be based on Iraqi law as well as international legislation and charters. The judges will be Iraqi with the possibility of using foreign experts,” Ar-Rubaie said. END Iraqis protest martyrdom of cleric
