Iraq introduces lottery system for choosing pilgrims By: Hamoud Kufi BAGHDAD, Iraq: Iraqi Religious Endowments Directorate has announced at a press conference the lottery system for choosing those Iraqis who would travel to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj in 2004. This is the first time such a system is to be put into effect. Previously it depended on the approval of the Iraqi intelligence apparatus before one was allowed to leave for Hajj, and it was only a handful of from the Sunni Muslims who were allowed.
