Israel persistent on fence despite UNGA vote By: Nabil Raza UNITED NATIONS: Israeli authorities on Wednesday have expressed determination to push on with the building of a controversial West Bank barrier despite a UN resolution demanding it halt building and remove the existing stretches of the fence. Late Tuesday, the UN General Assembly voted by an overwhelming majority a demand for Israel to “stop and reverse” construction of the barrier. The resolution passed by a vote of 144-4 with 12 countries abstaining said that the Israeli project contradicts international law. But it falls short of meeting Arab-led demands that the entire matter be referred to the International Court of Justice in the Hague for a legal ruling. However General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, and carry less weight those passed in the Security Council. END Israeli raids victims inhumed; Arafat demands intl action
RAMALLAH, West Bank: Palestinians martyred in Monday’s Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip have been laid to rest on Tuesday with tens of thousands of mourners shouting for revenge, and separately Palestinian President Yasser Arafat urged world leaders to take immediate action on the raids.
