First ever Arba’een procession held in Dearborn By: Wafa Al-Assadi DEARBORN, United States: Like other global parts, Arba’een Al-Hussaini was also observed in the United States with due respect and veneration. On this occasion, Majalis Al-Aza were held and mourning processions were taken out attended by throngs of mourners. Speakers highlighted the importance of Arba’een commemoration. A grand mourning procession to mark the Arba’een was brought out from Karbala Al-Moqaddisah Center in the city of Dearborn following Zohr and Asr prayers. Sheikh Hasham Al-Hussaini, the organizer, as well as a number of religious scholars and prayer leaders of other centers led the procession attended by different elegy-chanters. Women also participated. The mourners were chanting ‘Ya Hussain, Ya Hussain’ and pounding their chests while marching on the streets of the city. It was the first time that American authorities permitted such a procession in this city. Police took the charge of security. Meanwhile, the procession caught attention of passersby including foreigners as well as Americans who stopped and asked the participants about the tragedy of Karbala and the occasion of Arba’een. In the end, Sheikh Hasham Al-Hussaini addressed and made clear that Al-Imam Al-Hussain (AS)’s martyrdom in the desert of Karbala some 1,400 years ago was for the sake of safety of high values of humanity.
