Bahrain warns to crackdown against opposition
By: Ali Al-Qadumi
MANAMA, Bahrain: The government of
Bahrain has issued a warning it will take indefinite measures against
the Gulf state's main Shia opposition group after it organized a mass
demonstration breaking a government ban.
Bahrain is home to 75 percent Shia population.
The daily Al-Ayyam quoted on Saturday Information Minister and State
Minister for Foreign Affairs Muhammad Abdul-Ghaffar as saying that the
Islamic National Accord Association (INAA) headed by Shaikh Ali Salman
“will face legal measures after it organised an unlawful demonstration
yesterday.”
Newspapers carried a similar warning issued by the interior minister
Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa late on Friday after thousands of
people took to the streets of Sitra, the archipelago's third largest
island located south of Manama, in response to the INAA's call to
press for constitutional reforms.
INAA leader Shaikh Ali Salman led the march, in which representatives
of three other political groupings allied with his association - the
leftist National Democratic Action Association, the Nationalist
Democratic Rally, which is a pan-Arab nationalist group, and the
Islamic Action Association - also took part.
“Our demands are legitimate, (we want) constitutional amendments,”
chanted the demonstrators, who numbered more than 10,000, according to
independent estimates.
Abdul-Ghaffar did not explain the “measures” which would be taken
against the INAA, the main political formation of Bahrain's majority
Shias, amid speculation that the government could either order its
temporary suspension or withdraw its licence to operate.

"Knowledge is
better than wealth because it protects you while you have to
guard wealth. it decreases if you keep on spending it but the
more you make use of knowledge ,the more it increases . what you
get through wealth disappears as soon as wealth disappears but
what you achieve through knowledge will remain even after you."MORE
