By: Ali Al-Qadumi

MANAMA, Bahrain: A Bahraini opposition group has vowed to press ahead with its campaign for amending the constitution to give Bahrain's majority Shia community sufficient political rights despite threats of prosecution from the authorities after a protest by thousands of people last week.

“Constitutional reforms are what the whole nation is after. We are hoping to have a new constitution which guarantees more rights to the people,” Abdul-Jalil Singace a spokesman for Islamic National Accord Association (INAA) that is headed by Shaikh Ali Salman said on Tuesday.

He said: “We are moving one step at a time and this campaign for constitutional reforms will not cease even if they put a freeze on our activities.”

Bahraini officials were quoted in a pro-government newspaper as saying that the authorities would take legal action against the society for defying a government order banning Friday's rally.
