‘Iran Majlis never closed Imam Sadr case’
By: Sheikh M Khurasani
TEHRAN, Iran: Iran plans to hold “serious negotiations” with Libya
over the case of Imam Musa as-Sadr, thirty years after the Lebanese
leader vanished without a trace in that North African country.
This was stated by Iranian Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy
Committee chief Alaeddin Borujerdi.
As-Sadr was an Iranian-born Lebanese philosopher and a prominent Shia
religious leader who spent many years of his life in Lebanon as a
religious and political figure.
In August 1978, Sadr and two companions departed for Libya to meet
officials of Libyan leader Muammar al-Qadhafi’s government. Sadr and
his companions were never heard again, and many believe they met with
foul play at the hands of Qadhafi.
Borujerdi told the Iranian parliament has held some constructive
meetings with Sadr’s family with the goal of determining his fate.
“The Iranian administration and Majlis are continuing the
investigation of the Sadr issue and the case has never been closed,”
Borujerdi stated.
