Holy Askariyain shrine door damaged in bomb explosion

HOLY SAMARRA, Iraq: A bomb exploded on Tuesday near the
entrance of holy Al-Imamayn Al-Askariyain shrine in Samarra
causing damage, the US military said.
On February 22 this year, the holy dome of the sacred shrine
was destructed by bombing.
According to a US military statement an Iraqi police bomb
disposal team was sent to defuse the bomb after it was
discovered at the main doorway of the holy mausoleum during a
routine patrol.
"The team was successful in removing the detonation wire and
fuse. However, during their attempt to remove the bomb, it
exploded and caused minimal damage to the holy door and entry
way," the statement said.
The bomb had been built to "cause maximum damage," US
Lieutenant Colonel Viet Luong said.
