Millions renew their allegiance to Amirol Mo’minin (p) at his shrine

HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: Amid tight security measures, several million pilgrims on Monday Dhol-Hejjah 18 January 8 observed Eid Al-Ghadir - a day when Prophet Muhammad (p) designated Imam Ali as his successor, and a day of allegiance to the Amirol Mo’minin Al-Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (p), the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet (p), - at his holy shrine in the holy city of Najaf.

There was a strong police presence on the streets and many pilgrims making their way to the shrine were searched by officers.

The sacred mausoleum was richly decorated with buntings and colourful shiny lights. Sweets and desserts were distributed to the guests of Al-Imam Ali (p) with whom the streets of Najaf were crammed.

The auspicious day was also marked across the country.


Millions flock in Najaf to celebrate Eid Al-Welayah

HOLY CITY OF NAJAF, Iraq: Eid Al-Ghadir … Eid Al-Welayah, Al-Eid Al-Akbar marks the day when on 18th day of Dhol-Hejjah in the year 10 A.H. holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his holy progeny) declared Al-Imam Ali (peace be upon him) his first successor by the divine orders in front of more than 100,000 hajj pilgrims at the site of Ghadir in Saudi Arabia.
