The two Ayat gave their reactions in separate statements. Ayatullah Taqi Al-Modarresi said: “After rivers of blood ran and millions of human souls were put to death and after the Iraqi nation stood for jihad for three decades, all of the free nations with Iraqis rejoiced to see the tyrant of the time (Saddam Hussein) captured.” He urged the Iraqi nation to consider this day the martyr day because the martyr blood is the one that facilitated the way for the removal of the tyrant. He said Iraqis should welcome the sun of hope so that it shines on a promising tomorrow, and gives glad tidings to all Iraq sons without discrimination of Arabs, Kurds, Shiite, Sunni in east and west, south and north as a preparation for return of Iraq to its previous glories by the will of Allah.
